What is a literary analysis????
BE SURE TO READ THE NOTES ON LAST WEEK'S ANALYSIS TO GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR. Every other Wednesday, the students are required to turn in a literary analysis about the novel that they are reading in class. We have shared some examples of what we are looking for with the students. Let me start by saying - we do not want a retelling or a summary. Rather, this is a time for your child to share his/her thoughts and connections that he/she has made as an active reader. They are given different "bookmarks" which have some questions that they could use for the analysis - as a jump start in sharing their opinions, observations and ideas.. However, the questions are not required - nor do we expect them to answer every question. In addition, they can write about their own connections - between the text and themselves; between this novel and another novel; or between the novel/character and someone or something in their world. Attached you will find 2 sample reading reflections. We are also attaching some "making connections" questions that may give your child ideas about what to write about in his analysis.
